Portugal's transitional regime for crypto service providers ended on 1 July 2026
Under article 30 of Law 69/2025, which applies the EU MiCA Regulation in Portugal, virtual asset providers registered with Banco de Portugal on 30 December 2024 with activity already started could continue only until 1 July 2026 or until a decision on their MiCA authorisation, whichever came first. Since then, crypto-asset services in Portugal need a MiCA authorisation from Portugal or another EU member state; providing them without one is a very serious administrative offence.
